That's a great point! Happiness doesn't mean ignoring social problems or being oblivious to the struggles of others. In fact, happy people can be more engaged, empathetic, and motivated to make a positive impact on their communities.
Happiness can actually:
- Increase empathy: Happy people tend to be more empathetic and understanding of others' struggles.
- Boost resilience: Happiness can help people cope with challenges and setbacks, making them more resilient in the face of social problems.
- Foster engagement: Happy people are more likely to be engaged in their communities and work towards creating positive change.

HAPPINESS DOESN'T MAKE YOU IGNORE SOCIAL PROBLEMS

Happy people far from being self-centered or disengaged are more willing to tackle social problems.

There's a stereotype about people seeking happiness that all they care about is themselves. They look at the world through rose-coloured glasses, and so they refuse to see suffering. If we want to motivate people to care about righting social wrongs, the thinking goes, then we must stoke people's anger and fear.
