The French Revolution of 1789 was a complex event with multiple causes. Here are some key factors that contributed to the revolution.
- Financial Crisis: France was in deep financial trouble due to costly wars, extravagant spending by the monarchy, and a regressive tax system that burdened the common people.
- Social Inequality: The French society was divided into three estates: the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners. The nobility and clergy held vast power and wealth, while the commoners were subjected to heavy taxes and limited rights.
