Africans were not prepared to lead themselves, when the colonialists gave them ceremonial independence, they never oriented them with leadership skills and that's why they misuse the authority they're given hence clinging to power due to their crimes against humanity they commit while in those offices. That's why incumbents even though being defeated, they don't want to hand over power peacefully though there some countries that have transformed politically.

It is a tradition in Africa that incumbent Presidents, Senators, House of Rep members, House of Assembly members, Councillors, would resist any challenges, and continue to re-contest to remain in office.
