Academics, for their part, are attempting to measure what often feel like widening gaps. In 2017, Stanford’s Matthew Gentzkow looked at a series of Pew Research Center surveys of Americans’ views on policies ranging from government regulation to welfare, immigration, and the environment, and noted that fewer individuals in 2014 than 10 years earlier held positions that put them across the political divide from their own, self-identified political party. “Most Americans hold relatively moderate views on, say, immigration,” he writes. “But the frequency of Republicans holding pro-immigrant views, or Democrats holding anti-immigrant views, has decreased substantially.” Where Americans’ political views and social attitudes, charted, might once have looked like a bell curve, with the majority gathered at a moderate center, the line increasingly shows two separate humps where Democrats and Republicans congregate.

No matter what the fake news says about everyone being divided, the fact of the matter is that we are all more united now than ever before and it is growing every day.

We are all human, our differences are what makes life beautiful, interesting, and unique and should be celebrated. We have many things in common at the same time, no matter what the differences are, we all want peace, security, prosperity, a place to lay our head at night, and to be loved and to give love. I think we can all agree on these basic things.

So what is really dividing us?
Our opinions?
As the saying goes, everyone's got an opinion. You don't need to listen to them all.

Our beliefs?
All we need to do is respect each other. It's OK to think different than others. Most of the time we can do this no problem in many ways. Think about all the areas where there are many different beliefs allowed. People can get along fine. So is that really dividing us?

Race?
Stop, we are all one race, human. Anyone who says race divides us, is either a real racist or they don't understand that we are all one race already, the human race. So what is there to divide?

Politics?
Think about what is happening all over the USA right now, people are coming together in support of a free and fair election, Republicans, Democrats, and everyone in between. This is important for everyone, it doesn't matter what your politics are, you want your vote to count just like everyone else does and it should as long as it is done legally. All votes are equal when done legally. It doesn't matter who you vote for, that is your right to vote for whoever you want, even if it's Mickey Mouse. No matter who you vote for, your vote needs to count 100% if it is done legally.

So don't listen to the fake news telling you we are all divided, it is the fake news dividing us by talking about us being divided. So just turn the fake news off and you will find we are united and getting more united every day already.

How do you vote?
