COVID-19 is not the same as the seasonal flu. While the incubation period for seasonal influenze is much shorter (2-4 days) and it spreads faster than COVID-19 (14-20 days), the mortality rate is extremely higher for COVID-19. The flu results in 12K to 79K deaths annually in the US (since the 2010-2011 season). According to the CDC, the mortality rate in the US during the 2018-2019 season resulted in an estimated 34k deaths. Currently in the US there are just over 200k deaths (according to Worldometer) since March 2020, and we are just entering the influenza season.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the mortality rate of seasonal influenza is 0.1% or lower.
The current COVID-19 mortality rate based on 6,993,216 confirmed cases and 204,016 deaths in the US is approximately 2.917% (Worldometer).

Following unsubstantiated conspiracy theories is dangerous and poses a health risk in that it may result in people not taking necessary precautions or preventive measures.
